Back to Cali (Discordian Psychopomp)

Well, only a week back in Wisconsin and we are preparing to head back to California for a two-month stint caring for our dear friend Bob. The Bookstore is no closer to opening than it was 3 months ago, but when an opportunity like this comes up, there's not much you can do. The heat wave here has been intense, although the situation in California looks worse.

We fly out Monday, and this weekend we'll get our last library sale here of the summer. Friday night in Reedsburg, small sale, but there's got to be something there. THen Saturday and Sunday is the amazing Kickapoo County Fair, at the Organic Valley World headquarters just up the river in La Farge.

Our friend Bo has moved into our other apartment above the Bookstore, and has cleaned out our back storage space, and is creating a killer Drum Making Shop. A perfect addition to the project.

While I was in California last month I hit a great Library sale in Palo alto where i found one of the coolest books i have ever found. A first printing, first edition copy of "The Naked Lunch" by William Burroughs. It was printed in Paris in 1959, while the book was still illegal in the US. The book seems to be worth over 1000.00. Not bad for .25 cents.

Hail Eris

I recently came accross this book. As I have been acting as a discordian bartender for Bob the past few weeks, this came as a a nice synchronicity. I had heard of Robert W. Chambers, but had never asked Bob about him or about this book. Bob says that Chambers is one of his favorite authors from that period. He says that he based much of the mythology of Illuminatus! on Chambers and Lovecraft.
Bob has never heard of this novel. Unfortunately, the book is Not about the Great Goddess Eris, rather about a farm girl who becomes a movie star and cannot have her love because of her social status.
